The paper presents a brief introduction to the problem of absolute instability both from theoretical and experimental point of view. Then the experimental set-up prepared at the Institute of Thermal Machinery to study hot air jet stability is described together with a preliminary program of the experimental work concerning important questions formulated on the basis of the previous experimental investigations.
