In the paper, two strongly related problems are considered. The first problem concerns internal consistency of collaborations, the other one - consistency between collaboration and class diagrams. After defining the collaboration as a family of diagrams, its role in a software development process is discussed. The precise definitions of the internal consistency of collaboration, and, next, of the consistency between collaboration and a class diagram are presented in a way enabling derivation of the consistency checking algorithms. The introduced notion and rules are illustrated by a simple case study.
