In the paper have been presented on the background of French experiences the advantages of the water transport, mainly in relation to limitation of the „greenhouse effect". The Author relates that problem to the endless discussions on management of the lower Vistula. The formulated by the Author question concerning that issue should be answered in the near future because the work on the program „The Vistula 2020" has already started.
