Two-component mixtures (pyrolants) made from polytetrafluoroethylene (TF) and magnesium (Mg), aluminium (Al), an aluminium-magnesium alloy (Al3Mg4), titanium (Ti) and zirconium (Zr) were investigated. The heat of combustion of chosen mixtures containing different mass fraction of components (TF and metal) were determined in calorimetric experiments as well as differential thermal analysis (DTA) was performed for some of them. On the basis of the experimental results the decomposition characteristics and the concentration limits of combustion were established. Thermochemical calculations of some combustion parameters of the metal/TF pyrolants were also performed and the dependence of an equilibrium and non-equilibrium flame temperature on metal contents was determined for each mixture. Experimental values of the combustion heat were used to calculate a fraction of metal burned.
