A large amount of in situ hydrates may have an important link in utilisation of energy. Recently increase an interest of issues dealing with hydrates. In this paper brief review of the knowledge base for natural gas hydrates have been given. Among others a following questions were talked over: composition and molecular structure, condition and kinetics of formation, phase equilibria diagrams, experimental and calculation methods, some examples of calculation, occurrence and storage, hydrate as an energy source, ecological and exploitation hazard and hydrates prevention in the production and transportation gas system.
