Omówiono ogólną charakterystykę systemu GPS oraz fizyczne zasady jego wykorzystania. Przedstawiono strukturę krajowej, zintegrowanej i przestrzennej sieci geodezyjnej oraz omówiono zalety stosowania technologii GPS do zagęszczania sieci geodezyjnych oraz specjalnych sieci geodyna-micznych i aerofotogrametrycznych. Przedstawiono przykłady zastosowania technik satelitarnych w inżynierii środowiska wskazujące na to, że technika ta powinna w najbliższej przyszłości stać się jednym z elementów monitoringu przemieszczeń i odkształceń budowli piętrzących, zboczy dolin, brzegów zbiorników wodnych itp.

The Author discusses in the paper the general characteristic of the GPS system and the physical principles of its utilization. He presents also the structure of the national integrated and spatial geodetic network and the advantages of the use of the GPS technology for increasing the density of the geodetic, special geodynamic and air photogrammetry networks. The paper presents also examples of application of the satellite technic in environmental engineering which give reasons for conclusion that the discussed technic should be in the nearest future one of the elements of monitoring of displacement and deformation of dams, slopes of valleys, water reservoirs banks and the like.
