The paper presents the history, the present state and the basic trends of the Polish electrical industry which was initiated towards the close of the XIX century, i.e. still at the time of the partitions of Poland. In the period of over 100 years the industry was many times transformed, not only with respect of participation in the national industry but first of all with respect of its internal structure. All in all, this branch of industry can be called a success, because the electrical engineering influences – if not in a direct way then in an indirect way – almost all areas of life and economy.

W artykule przedstawiono historię, stan obecny i podstawowe trendy dotyczące polskiego przemysłu elektrotechnicznego, który został zapoczątkowany u schyłku XIX w., czyli jeszcze pod zaborami. W okresie przeszło 100 lat dokonało się jego wielokrotne przeobrażenie nie tylko pod względem udziału w krajowym przemyśle, ale przede wszystkim pod względem jego wewnętrznej struktury. Summa summarum tę gałąź przemysłu można nazwać gałęzią sukcesu, bowiem elektrotechnika ma — jeśli nie bezpośredni to pośredni — wpływ na prawie wszystkie dziedziny życia i gospodarki.
