This paper deals with new analytical modelling of the classical tensile test with an axisymmetric sample, determining the yield stress of elasto-plastic materials under the neck formation. Known for many years, classical Bridgman and Davidenkov-Spridinova`s formulae provide a certain terror, especially visible in the case of weakly hardening and ideal-plastic materials. Making use of our own assumptions, others than those applied earlier, and being based on deformation theory of plasticity, a new formula is derived. Its advantage in comparison with known formulae is confirmed by means of high accurate numerical simulation of tensile tests for three types of materials based on the Finite Element Method.
