Przedstawiono kierunki rozwoju lokalnych sieci bezprzewodowych. W szczególności dokonano przeglądu prac grup roboczych zaangażowanych w tworzenie rodziny standarów IEEE 802.11. Standard ten jako jedyny na świecie doczekał się wielu praktycznych implementacji. Przedstawiono zarówno istniejące standardy, jak i te, które są dopiero w fazie tworzenia. Określono także plany kolejnych grup roboczych nad dalszymi rozszerzeniami standardu IEEE 802.11.

The future of wireless local area networks is presented in this paper. In particular, the review of IEEE 802.11 standard family Working Groups work has been done. This is the only standard in the world that has many real implementations. The complete standards are presented as well as these that exist as drafts. The next IEEE 802.11 Working Group plans for future standard development are characterized. Wireless local area networks market analysis as well as development forecast for next years are also presented in this work.
