Towards future all-optical packet networks-which way?

Abstrakty
Characteristics of transparent optical networks and all-optical networks have been discussed, and overlaps and differences of the two concepts have been pointed out. New way of network evolution towards hybrid real-time and optical packet network has been presented, with separation of real-time services in a dynamically allocated WDM sub-network, while the whole remaining allowable bandwidth resources are used by packet network. Both networks are separated in wavelength domain, so they operate independently.
