Technika ATM jest obecnie uznawana za podstawową metodę spełniającą wymagania transmisji w sieciach Internet. Protokół TCP/IP, szeroko stosowany dla niezawodnego dostarczania informacji w sieciach ziemskich, napotyka na wiele problemów w systemach satelitarnych ze względu na duże opóźnienia czasowe i zwiększoną stopę błędów. Artykuł omawia te problemy i niektóre możliwe rozwiązania.

ATM is currently considered the primary technology fulfilling the transmission requirements in Internet networks. Protocol TCP/IP widely used to provide reliable data delivery in terrestrial networks faces many problems in satellite systems as a result of large delays and increased error rate. The objective of this article is to indicate on these problems and discuss some of possible solutions.
