The potential energy resources of biomass can be split into two groups: - crop plantations, especially grown for energy purposes, - organic residues and waste: crop residues, waste created during production and processing of vegetables, animal waste (manure), organic municipal waste. Technological potential of biomass (in this case equivalent to solid biofuel) to be used for energy purposes and coming from the second group has been estimated for about 407.5 PJ per annum. It consists of the biomass surplus generated in agriculture (about 195 PJ), in forestry (101 PJ), in fruit-growing (57.6 PJ), and of wood industry waste (53.9 PJ). Energy potential from plantations of crops grown for energy purposes is difficult to estimate. Plantations of fast-growing willow are ready to be used in their third year of cultivation. In Poland it is possible to gain annually about 1 MLN tons of rapeseed for rape biofuel yielding 330.000 tons. Future development of biomass processing technology will cause its better usage for energetics. Various types of biomass huvc different fuel values. In this paper have been presented technologies of processing the biomass into energy already implemented and planned until 2010.The data came from the renewable energy development strategy of Poland.
