Production of a polymer characterized by good mechanical properties (durable) and simultaneously biodegradable easily is not an easy problem. An influence of plastics on the environment should also be taken under consideration. The examples of biodegradable plastics and their application have been presented in this paper. A short characteristics of biodegradable plastics used in tests have been presented. An effect of time on degradation degree of Mater-Bi polymer (Italy) have been described. It was found that the polymer mentioned above was biodegradable in meadow soil and gravel. In the first stage, the sample mass increased as a result of moisture draw from soil and then it decreased and samples were delaminated. The value of pH became higher.
