The objective of the study was to examine the efficiency of iron and manganese removal for groundwater with the use of various oxidants. Pilot-scale experiments were run direct at the water intake. The oxidizing agents of choice were atmospheric oxygen and pure oxygen. Consideration was given to the problem of how the method of oxidation affected iron and manganese content and head loss variations. Of the two oxidants tested, pure oxygen was found to yield higher efficiencies of iron and manganese removal. The use of pure oxygen as an oxidizing agent should therefore be recommended.
