The object under study is the Waterworks of Warsaw. The water to be treated comesfrom the Yistula River. Recently use has been made of chlorine dioxide (generated in situ) for disinfection ofdrinking water. The paper describes in detail the on-site generation of CIO2, the CIO2 dosing system, and the quality ofthe water at the outletfrom the plant and in the network. Two methodsof disinfection werestudied-one involved chlorine dioxide alone, the other one a ClO2-Cl2 mixture. The yield of THM formation was found to depend on the proportion of chlorine involved in the disinfection process. The criteria for the determination ofthe CIO2 demand were proposed.
