EN

Advanced oxidation processes (AOP) are reviewed in the context of organic matter removal, especially of low-molecular-weight toxic substances from water. The mechanism governing the AOP involves the oxidizing potential ofhydroxyl radicals. Free radical reactions, O3/H2O2, H2O2/UV and O3/UV processes, Fenton's reagent, as well as photochemical and photocatalytic methods of oxidation arediscuss'ed in moredetail. Making use of reported data and of the results obtained in his own studies the author of the paper draws attention to the applications of AOP, particularly to the removal of organic substances which are not amenable to conventional treatment.
