A new sensitive analytical method was developed. The method enables guantitative analysis of formaldehyde ( up to 0.75 nmol per 1 cm3 reaction mixture) in agueous solutions and municipal sewage. For the purpose of the study, use was made of the non-cancerogenic chromogen,3,3' , 5,5' - tetramenthylobenzidine (TMB),which is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in the peroxidase reaction to form a dye (which can be determined by photometry). The objective of the present study was to examine the eficiency of the enzymatic kit ALCOTEST ( containing alcohol oxidase, peroxidase, chromogen and buffering components ) when used for the determination of formaldehyde in water solutions and municipal sewage.
