On the cost effectiveness of water desalination for industrial needs
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
Three alternative treatment trains were considered in terms of their cost effectiveness with the objective to demineralize water of known parameters, which was to be used for industrial purposes. The water under study was pretreated and showedparameters typical of tap water. It was assumed that the admissible conductivity value for deionized water amounted to 1 uS/cm. Proposedwere three treatment trains, involving electrodialysis ( train I ),reverse osmosis ( train II ) and ion-exchange demineralization ( train III ).Each of the three trains included deionization on a mixed-bed-ion-exchanger as a final step, two values of water flow velocity ( 1 and 5 m3/h ) and values of salt concentration (1,2,4 and 8 val/m3).According to this analysis, train I ( electrodialysis+ deionization on the mixed-bed-ion-exchanger) involved the highest costs.
