EN

Emissions of malodorous compound during composting of spent biomass are a serious environmental nuisance. The composition of the flue gases produced in the course of the process was related to temperature and pH.On the basis of literature data,it was possible to identifity about 100 species carried by the flue gas stream.The concentration range for the emitted odoriferous compounds was defined in terms of odour units ( up to 100,000 OU/m3 ). For some of the compounds,mass concentrations ( up to 10,000 mg/m3) were determined.The specific features of the odours concomitant with some of the emitted copounds were listed.Limonene and dimethyl sulfide were classifield as characteristic odorants.
