Paper presents an attempt to validate application of colourimetry as a method of examination of laser cleaning of the copper sheet, taken from the roof of the Wilanów Palace in Warsaw during its restoration. Analysis has been made on the base of authors experience in spectrophotometric and colourimetric analysis of laser cleaning processes in case of different historical materials. Material analysis of samples and encrustation preceded colourimetric surface measurements. Complex analyses allowed formulation of several indications for applicability of the colourimetric method in the evaluation of its effectiveness an influence on metallic surfaces in the presence of degradation caused by atmospheric pollution. In particular, colourimetry could be considered as a proper diagnostic tool in case of removal of single corrosion layers as well as removal of atmospheric deposits on gilding.
