PL

Wzrost konkurencji ze strony transportu samochodowego i lotniczego doprowadził do trudnej finansowej i rynkowej sytuacji transportu kolejowego. W następstwie, w wielu państwach na świecie podjęto intensywne działania, prowadzące do zasadniczych zmian struktur organizacyjnych i/lub właścicielskich. Procesy te nie są zakończone, a doświadczenia różnych krajów pozwalają lepiej rozumieć zalety i wady różnego podejścia. W artykule przedstawiono w zarysie przebieg i wyniki przekształceń strukturalnych w transporcie kolejowym w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w Ameryce Łacińskiej.

The increasing competition from road and air transport put the railway enterprises into extremely difficult financial and market situation. As a result, in many countries strenuous efforts have been undertaken leading to fundamental changes in railways structures and/or ownership. These processes are not over yet and the experiences collected allow to understand better the merits and shortcomings of different approaches. The article presents the course and effects of railway structural changes in the USA and in Latin America.
