Artykuł stanowi uaktualnioną treść referatu wygłoszonego przez Autorów na kon-ferencji naukowej pt. 'Reforma polskiego górnictwa węgla kamiennego - szansę i zagrożenia', zorganizowanej przez Wydział Organizacji i Zarządzania oraz Katedrę Zarządzania i Restrukturyzacji w Górnictwie Wydziału Górnictwa i Geologii Politech-niki Śląskiej (Ustroń, 18-19 czerwca 1998 r.). Konferencja odbyła się pod patronatem ministra gospodarki - Janusza Steinhoffa. W artykule omówiono sytuację finansową górnictwa węgla kamiennego w latach dziewięćdziesiątych i podstawowe czynniki ją kształtujące. Przedstawio-no dotychczasowe działania w zakresie restrukturyzacji finansowej. Omówiono prognozę sytuacji finansowej górnictwa w rezultacie realizacji rządowego pro-gramu reformy górnictwa węgla kamiennego w latach 1998-2002 i perspektywy doskonalenia zarządzania finansami w górnictwie.

The article constitutes an up-dated content of the paper presented by the authors at the scientific conference on ,,Rcform of Polish Hard Coal Mining Industry- Chan-ces and Hazards' organised by Mining and Management Faculty and the Depart-ment of Management and Restructuring in the Mining and Geology Department of the Silesian Technical University (Ustron, 18-19 June, 1998). The Conference was held under the auspices of the Minister of Economy - Janusz Steinhoff. The article presents the financial situation of hard coal mining industry in the 1990-ties and basic factors creating the situation. . It presents the up-to-date activity related to financial restructuring. The article presents the forecast of financial situation of coal industry as the outcome of implementation of the go-vernment programme of the reform of the coal sector during 1998-2002 and prospects of financial management improvement in the industry.
