W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie teorii informacji do analizy struktury i stopnia zdywersyfikowania importu gazu ziemnego od strony dostawców. Wykorzystano dwa wskaźniki miary koncentracji rynku (populacji): wskaźnik Herfindahla-Hirschmana (HHI) oraz indeks Shannon-Wienera. Poprowadzone przez autorów rozważania teoretyczne prowadzą do stwierdzenia, że entropia będąca miarą atomowego i cząsteczkowego nieuporządkowania nadaje się do badań modelowych i statystycznych dywersyfikacji dostaw gazu na danym rynku wydzielonym, ponieważ właśnie statystycznie rzecz biorąc, stan najmniejszego uporządkowania występuje z największym prawdopodobieństwem. Autorzy w artykule podnoszą, że strategia dywersyfikacji dostawców jest wyraźną przesłanką do zwiększenia bezpieczeń-stwa energetycznego danego kraju. Indeks zróżnicowania Shannon-Wienera przypisujący większą wagę do mniejszych do-stawców daje lepsze wyobrażenie poziomu zróżnicowania dostaw gazu, a tym samym także stopnia bezpieczeństwa dostaw. Wyliczone wartości wskaźnika SWI wskazują na podobną dychotomię jak w przypadku indeksu HHI: dobrze zdywersyfikowane kraje Europy Zachodniej i słabo lub całkowicie niedostatecznie Europy Wschodniej i Południowo-Wschodniej.

The paper presents the application of information theory to analyze the structure and degree of diversification of gas imports from the suppliers, uses two indicators measuring market concentration (population): Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) and the Shannon-Wiener index. The theoretical considerations of the authors lead to the conclusion that the entropy which is the measure of the atomic and molecular disorder is suitable for testing the statistical model and the diversification of gas supplies to a separate market, because the arrangement is the smallest state with the highest probability. The authors argue that the strategy of diversification of suppliers is clearly a prerequisite to enhance the energy security of the country. Index diversity Shannon-Wiener assigning greater weight to smaller suppliers, giving a better idea of the level of diversification of gas supply, and hence the degree of security of supply. The calculated value of the indicator SWI show a similar dichotomy as in the case of HHI: a well-diversified countries of Western Europe and weak or completely under-Eastern and South-East Asia.
