Issues and solutions for the application of Cognitive Radio in future wireless communication systems

Abstrakty
Cognitive Radio (CR) is currently regarded as the most promising solution to the problem of coexistence of different radio technologies by allowing smart spectrum management and cooperation in future wireless communication systems. The paper presents CR as a radio system that can adapt its transmission or reception parameters based on cognitive interaction with the wireless environment in which it operates. This interaction may involve passive spectrum sensing or active communication and negotiation with other spectrum users based on reasoning procedures which represent the "intelligence" of the CR itself. The active CR which has become of interest during the past few years aims at improving spectrum efficiency, capacity and fairness by coordinating the radio behavior in time, location and frequency. In this paper authors elaborate on the key issues and solutions used for CR.
