Remediation capability of several plant species to remove Cd and Zn from soils with different concentra-tion of toxic metals was investigated in this experiment. We used two hyperaccumulator species and five species of fast growing trees (willows and poplars). Experiment was realized in pots containing 5 kg of air-dried and fertilized soil. Tested soils bad law, medium and high concentrations of investigated elements. Fast growing trees are not able to grow on highly contaminated soil. They not survive due to phytotoxicity of this environment. Only hyperaccumulator species are able to grow there, but with low remediation efficiency. Phytoremediation is feasible only on medium contaminated soil. Hyperaccumulators contained significantly higher concentrations of Cd (82.3-271 mg . kg-1) and Zn (89.4-870 mg . kg-1) in aboveground biomass comparered to fast growing trees there (17.3-41.1 mg. kg-1 of Cd; 15.1-60.6 mg. kg-1 of Zn). On the other side, they produced significantly lower yield. Comparable remediation potential of Salix dasyclados and tested hyperaccumulators (Arabidopsis halleri and Thlaspi caerulescens) was found on medium contaminated soil.

Badano zdolność remediacyjną kilku gatunków roślin do usuwania Cd i Zn z gleb o różnej zawartości metali toksycznych. Hiperakumulatory zawierają znacznie większe ilości Cd i Zn w nadziemnej biomasie w porównaniu z szybko rosnącymi w tych warunkach drzewami. Z drugiej strony, wytwarzają znacznie mniejsze plony. Stwierdzono porównywalny potencjał remediacyjny Salix dasyclados i testowanych hiperakumulatorów (A. halleri and T. caerulescens) na średnio zanieczyszczonej glebie.
