In this paper the civil engineering applications of fiber optic sensors are presented. The experimental study conducted on concrete beam using modified Fabry-Perot sensors. The system for monitoring the performance of the steel tank under wind action and foundation settlement is based on the Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometer. Although the use of continuous optic sensor in civil engineering structures seems to be promising, the extensive experimental studies and in situ tests must be conducted.
