In the paper, the sensitivity analysis and optimal design of plates with reinforcing ribs is considered. The reinforcements are introduced along some lines for which shape parameters should be determined, so that the plate would be the best from the chosen point of view. First the sensitivity analysis with respect to shape properties of reinforcement is performed using adjoint approach. Next the relevant optimality conditions are formulated and some illustrative examples are presented.
