This paper presents a comparison of calculation results for the compression steel columns according to PN-EN 1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3) and the current Polish Standard PN-90/B-03200. The basic design requirements for the prismatic as well as built-up columns subjected to axial load are taken into consideration. On the basis of presented numerical examples it is shown that the calculation of steel columns using the Polish Standard leads to more conservative designing than by using the Eurocode 3. The paper has some practical aspects and can be useful in designing of steel structures.
