W analityce i monitoringu środowiskowym znajdują zastosowanie trzy typy metod analitycznych przeznaczonych do: określania składu pierwiastkowego zanieczyszczeń (analiza elementarna); prowadzenia badań specjacyjnych; określania stopnia zanieczyszczenia poszczególnych elementów środowiska poprzez wyznaczenie wartości parametrów sumarycznych, które służą do wyrażania sumarycznej zawartości danego pierwiastka we wszystkich zanieczyszczeniach (lub określonej grupie zanieczyszczeń) obecnych w badanej próbce. W pracy przedstawiono: klasyfikację sumarycznych parametrów wykorzystywanych w analityce środowiskowej oraz informacje na temat obszaru wykorzystania tych parametrów w praktyce analitycznej.

Three major types of analytical methods find application in environmental analytics and monitoring. These methods are used for the determination of: chemical composition of the pollutants (elemental analysis); analyte speciation; degree of pollution of the particular environmental compartments through the determination of the so-called total parameters, describing the total content of a given element in all the pollutants (or particular groups of pollutants) present in the sample. The cIassification of total parameters used in environmental analysis, as well as information on the use of these parameters in analytical practice were presented.
