W ostatnich latach na całym świecie wzrasta liczba użytkowników telefonów przenośnych i bezprzewodowych. Mózg jest organem eksponowanym na pola elektromagnetyczne o częstotliwościach radiowych, emitowane podczas rozmów telefonicznych. Od drugiej połowy lat dziewięćdziesiątych w Szwecji były wykonywane badania dla ustalenia związku tej ekspozycji z guzami mózgu. Ekspozycja była oceniana na podstawie pytań ankietowych. Analiza łączna dwóch badań kliniczno-kontrolnych przypadków zachorowań na guzy mózgu została oparta na odpowiedziach od 1 254 (88%) pacjentów z łagodnym guzem mózgu, 905 (90%) ze złośliwym guzem mózgu oraz 2 162 (89%) osób z grupy kontrolnej. W podsumowaniu autorzy stwierdzili, że na podstawie przeglądu najnowszych badań dotyczących tego tematu można wnioskować, iż używanie telefonów przenośnych dłużej niż 10 lat powoduje zwiększone ryzyko występowania guzów mózgu.

During recent years the use of mobile and cordless phones has increased worldwide. Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields are emitted during calls and the brain is the main target organ for exposure. We have done case-control studies on this topic since the second part of the 1990s to evaluate an association with brain tumours. Exposures were assessed with self-administered questionnaires. The pooled analysis of the two case-control studies on brain tumours was based on answers from 1 254 (88%) cases with a benign brain tumour, 905 (90%) with a malignant brain tumour and 2 162 (89%) controls. A recent review of currently published studies on this topic has revealed that the use of mobile phones for longer than 10 years increases the risk for brain tumours.
