Zgromadzenie Ogólne Narodów Zjednoczonych 28 lipca 2010 r. przyjęło rezolucję, w której "dostęp do czystej wody i urządzeń sanitarnych" został uznany za fundamentalne prawo człowieka. Woda jest niezbędna do życia, jednak miliony ludzi na świecie nie mają wystarczającego dostępu do jej zasobów.
