Polskie i światowe standardy szkolenia dość istotnie się różnią – mimo przynależności Wodnego Ochotniczego Pogotowia Ratunkowego do międzynarodowych struktur ratowniczych. Jest to zjawisko niepokojące, gdyż w polskich programach nauczania jest wiele nieaktualnych elementów, obniżając jakość przygotowania do pracy ratowników wodnych. Nieuwzględnianie wiedzy m.in. o czynnikach zakłócających w miejscu pracy czy o absolutnej konieczności stosowania podręcznego sprzętu ratowniczego do prowadzenia skutecznej akcji ratunkowej może stać się powodem tragedii.

Polish and world standards of training (despite of Volunteer Lifeguards Association being part of international lifeguarding structures) differ significantly. It is very disturbing phenomenon because contents of polish courses programs includes many outdated elements lowering the quality of lifeguards preparation for their jobs. Not including knowledge, among other things, about disruptive factors in the working place or absolute necessity of using portable rescue equipment to carry out efficient rescue operation may be a cause of unintentional tragedy.
