W najszerszym znaczeniu zrównoważony rozwój przedsiębiorstwa/społecznie odpowiedzialny łańcuch dostaw uwzględnia trzy współzależne komponenty: cele ekologiczne, cele społeczne oraz cele ekonomiczne. Jeżeli przyjmiemy hipotezę, ze handel jest to ogniwo konfrontacji oczekiwań konsumentów oraz koncepcji łańcucha dostaw to wydaje się, że rola handlu może mieć szczególne znaczenie w osiąganiu celów w zakresie kreowania modelu biznesu zrównoważonego rozwoju, który w swojej koncepcji uwzględnia nie tylko sukces biznesowy ale także wymiar społeczny i ekologiczny Wydaje się, iż szczególną rolę w tym zakresie może mieć z jednej strony kształtowanie oferty handlowej, z drugiej zaś edukacja w obszarze kształtowania zachowań konsumentów.

In general, the sustainable development of an enterprise and the socially responsible chain of supply refer to three interdependent components: ecological objectives, social objectives and economical objectives. If the hypothesis is formulated that the commerce constitutes a link of confrontation between the consumers' expectations and the concept of the supply chain it seems that the role of the commerce might be special in the process of creation of sustainable and socially responsible business model which involves not only the commercial success but also has the social and ecological aspects. It appears that shaping of the commercial offer on one hand and education on development of consumers' behavior on the other one, might play a particular role in this respect.
