Artykuł przedstawia krótką historię Kongresów Polskiego Odlewnictwa oraz przebieg obrad IV Kongresu, który odbył się 18. września 2002 roku w pierwszym dniu trwania Międzynarodowych Targów Odlewnictwa METAL 2002. W ramach sesji referatowej wygłoszone zostały następujące referaty: "Światowy rynek producentów odlewów", "Mechanizmy kalkulacji cen w eksporcie odlewów na rynki krajów Unii Europejskiej", "Udział w europejskich programach badań i rozwoju szansą dla integracji odlewnictwa polskiego i krajów kandydujących do UE" i "Optymalizacja kosztów produkcji w branży odlewniczej w celu podniesienia konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw". W IV Kongresie Polskiego Odlewnictwa wzięła udział zaproszona przez Targi Kielce ukraińska delegacja przedstawicieli przedsiębiorstw i spółek odlewniczych, budowy maszyn i urządzeń, a także delegacja Instytutu Metali Kolorowych z Doniecka oraz Ukraińskiej Akademii Odlewnictwa z Dniepropietrowska. Prezes J.S. Suchy witając przybyłych gości wyraził nadzieję na zainicjowanie współpracy Polski i Ukrainy w zakresie wymiany doświadczeń z dziedziny odlewnictwa oraz branż pokrewnych. Przewodniczący ukraińskiej delegacji prof, dr V.J. Hrychikov, w imieniu wszystkich przybyłych, wyraził chęć i gotowość zacieśniania i rozszerzania współpracy z polskimi firmami, a następnie zaprezentował bardzo ciekawy referat na temat "Kierunki krzepnięcia żeliwnych odlewów wielkogabarytowych". Dyskusja nad interesującą tematyką referatów prowadzona była w czasie kolejnych dni trwania Targów METAL 2002.

The article presents a short history of the Congresses of the Polish Foundry Practice and the course of debates during the IV Congress, which took place on the 18th September 2002 on the first day of the International Foundry Fair METAL 2002. During the report session the following papers were read: "World market of the producers of castings"; "Mechanisms of the price calculation in the export of castings to the markets of countries belonging to the European Union"; "Participation in the European research and development programmes as a chance for integration of the Polish foundry practice, and for the countries-candidates to the European Union"; "Production cost optimisation in foundry branch in order to increase competitiveness of enterprises". The, by the Management of the Kielce Fair invited, delegation of the Ukrainian representatives of foundries, machines-building and installations enterprises and also of the Institute for Non-Ferrous Metals from Donecko as well as of the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine from Dnepropetrovsk took part in the IV Congress of the Polish Foundry Practice. Professor J.S. Suchy, the president, welcomed the newcomers and expressed his expectations to initiate the co-operation of Poland and Ukraine in exchanging experience not only from the domain of foundry practice, but also from the related branches. Prof, dr V.J. Hrychikov, the president of the delegation from Ukraine, on behalf of all the representatives, stated that they were willing and eager to tighten and develop their co-operation with the Polish firms. Then he presented a very interesting paper: "Directions of solidification in large iron castings". Discussion on the interesting problems presented in the papers was carried on during the succeeding days of the Fair "METAL 2002".
