W artykule omówiono praktyczne zastosowanie w kontroli produkcji żeliwa norm: ASTM A247-67 oraz PN-EN ISO 945. Amerykańska norma opisu grafitu używa trzech skal wzorców: kształtu, rozmieszczenia i wielkości: podanych w postaci rysunków. W Polskiej Normie zastosowano również porównawczą metodę oceny, ale inne skale wzorców. Następnie przedstawiono praktycznie sposób postępowania przy ocenie mikrostruktury grafitu według wzorców zamieszczonych w obu normach i omówiono problemy wynikające z zastosowania różnych skal wzorców oraz spowodowane brakiem precyzyjnego określenie co i jak należy mierzyć. Powoduje to, że wyniki oceny według obu norm nie są porównywalne, jak również nie jest możliwe zastosowanie nowoczesnych metod analizy obrazu. W normie ASTM problem opisu mikrostruktury osnowy metalowej żeliwa nie jest omawiany. Natomiast norma PN unieważnia część dotyczącą opisu grafitu z normy PN-75/H-04661. Zatem sposób oceny osnowy metalowej według tej normy może być nadal stosowany w praktyce przemysłowej. Powoduje to konieczność używania aż trzech norm w zależności od wymagań odbiorcy odlewów. Artykuł podkreśla konieczność unifikacji obu norm oceny grafitu oraz dokładnego opisania metod pomiaru cech morfologicznych, aby wyniki oceny za pomocą norm i z użyciem analizatora obrazu były porównywalne między sobą.

In the article the practical application of the standards ASTM A247-67 and PN-EN ISO 945 in the production control of the cast iron quality is discussed. The American standard of the graphite description uses three types of charts concerning the form, distribution and size and given in the form of drawings. In the Polish standard the comparative method is also applied, however, there are other types of charts. Next the practical procedure of evaluating the graphite microstructures according to the types of charts given in both standards is presented. Problems resulting from the application of various types of charts and also those caused by the lack of a precise description what and how should be measured are dealt with. It causes that the results of evaluation according to these two standards are not comparable and the application of the modern methods for the image analysis is also impossible. In the ASTM standard the problem of the description of microstructure of the metallic matrix of cast iron is not discussed, whereas the PN standard annuls the part concerning the graphite description given in the PN-75/H-04661 standard.Thus, the method of evaluation of the metallic matrix according to this standard can be still used in industrial practice. However, it is then necessary to use three standards according to the requirements of the customer. The article stresses the neccesity of unification of both standards dealing with the graphite evaluation and of giving a precise description of the measurements methods of the morphological features in such a way that the results of evaluation by means of those standards and with the use of image analyser were comparable with each other.
