Otwierając zbiór artykułów związanych z Jubileuszem Wydziału Odlewnictwa AGH, dziekan tego Wydziału pisze o procesie kształcenia przyszłych inżynierów dla odlewnictwa. Współczesne odlewnictwo potrzebuje inżynierów o szerokich horyzontach w zakresie przedmiotów ścisłych i ogólnotechnicznych, elementami ekonomiki, organizacji pracy i zarządzania. Warunkiem takiego kształcenia jest zapewnienie nowoczesnego zaplecza naukowego, badawczego i dydaktycznego, a także nowoczesnego przygotowania pracowników naukowych Wydziału. Wyprzedzając w wyniku badań naukowych aktualny stan wiedzy odlewniczej, Wydział musi brać nadal aktywny udział w życiu przemysłowym odlewnictwa. To gwarantuje ustawiczną więź z absolwentami Wydziału, a nade wszystko umożliwia doskonalić programy nauczania. Aby sprostać tym wymaganiom musi następować zmiana systemu kształcenia pod kątem jego indywidualizowania, stwarzając model wydziału otwartego. Otwartego tzn. bliskiego kontaktu studentów ze swoimi nauczycielami w czasie studiów, a także zapewniającego swoim absolwentom pomoc w rozwiązywaniu problemów zawodowych. Z okazji jubileuszu, Autor składa podziękowanie Wszystkim, którzy nadesłali Wydziałowi życzenia i pozdrowienia, wyrażając tym samym sympatię i życzliwość, tak niezbędne w trudnych czasach, alenapawające nadzieją na lepszą przyszłość.

Opening a series of articles connected with the Jubilee of the Department of Foundry Practice of the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy the Dean of this Department writes about the process of educating future engineers for foundry practice. Foundry practice of the present day needs broad-minded engineers in the range of exact subjects, comprising all the aspects of technology, with elements of economics and work organization. A condition of such education is securing of modern scientific, research and didactic background areas, as well as modem preparation of the scientific workers of the Department Getting ahead, as a result of scientific work, of the actual state of foundry knowledge, the Department must take an active part in the life of foundry industry. This fact guarantees the constant ties with the graduates of the Department, and first of all it enables the improvement of the educating programmes. To keep pace with these requirements the change of the educational system from the point of view of its individualisation must follow, creating a model of an open Department, it means a Department of close contact of its students with their professors during their studies, and also ensuring their graduates assistance in solving their professional problems. On the occasion of the Jubilee, the author expresses his thanks to all those who sent their wishes and greetings to the Department, showing in this way their sympathy and kindness, so indispensable in these hard times, but filling our hearts with hope for better future.
