Resultr are quoted of examining the critical stress intensity factor K for the zone of nitrided layer compounds. Differences in the value of K have been found depending on the grade of steel on which the layer has been deposited. The values determined for the nitrided zone in a nitrided layer are close to the values of solid nitrided materials.
