Abstrakty
In this work a non-destructive ultrasound method was applied for measurements of nitrided layers thickness. The method is based on experimentally established correlation between velocity of surface waves in a standard layer and the thickness of this layer measurement by different destructive methods. The measurements were made on tool steel austenitized in various temperatures in order to differentiate the grain size. Then after gaseous nitriding layers of different thickness ware obtained. It was found that the morphology of nitrided layer dependence on the austenitization temperature influencing also the calibration curves. The results for nitrided layers thickness obtained by ultrasound method fall within a confidence interval of destructive method.
