Production of Ni-Mo+Mo composite coatings with increased content of embeded Mo.

The composite coatings on a Ni-Mo alloy matrix with increased contents of Mo were electrodeposited under galvanostatic condition. The coatings were deposited at room temperature in the current density range of 100 to 300 mA/square cm. On the X-ray diffraction pattern of coatings the wide peaks indicated the presence of nanocrystalline Ni-Mo base and the peaks of crystalline Mo appeared. At the temperature up to 800 degrees centigrade the crystallization of the composite matrix and creation of the intermetallic Ni3Mo compound was observed. The Mo contents in Ni-Mo coatings determined by X-ray fluorescence method varied in the range from 20.7 wt.% (j=100mA/square cm) to 30.5 wt.% (jd=250 mA/square cm). The Mo content in Ni-Mo+Mo coatings obtained under identical conditions varied in the range from 57.1 wt.% (jd=250 mA/square cm) to 79.6 wt.% (jd=150 mA/square cm). An addition of Mo powder to the electrolyte caused considerable increase in Mo contents in Ni-Mo+Mo coatings. An increase in current deposition was accompanied by a decrease in the thickness of Ni-Mo+Mo coatings from 66 micrometres to about 133 micrometres.
