Abstrakty
The as-cast and annealed at 1173 K Al-Cu-Co decagonal quasicrystals were studied by means of high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Annealing at 1173 K for 8 h and the subsequent cooling in iced water were repeated three times. In HREM images of as-cast alloys a ring-like contrast with diameter of about 2 nm was distinguished. Some adjacent rings of contrast had shared areas. In these areas the intensity of contrast is higher than in unshared areas. After the thermal treatment the intensity of contrast of the shared areas equalised with the intensity of the unshared areas of the ring-like contrasts. These changes are discussed in relation to the change in the distribution of the transition-metal (TM) atoms in 2 nm clusters of Al-Cu-Co decagonal quasicrystals.
