The state of the art in the areas glass science and technology today and questions in future development, applications and new opportunities for glass discussed at the 9-th ESG Conference in Trenčin are presented. The main nowadays efforts and challenges for the glass industry in Poland are discussed. They are similar to threats for glass production considered at the Conference. The main objects of scientific researches helping to prevent them are indicated.
