Dodatek niobu do stopu CuNi10Sn5 powoduje drobnoziarnistość struktury oraz wydzielanie fazy (Cu,Ni)3Nb. W czasie starzenia stopu, obecność tych wydzieleń powstrzymuje tworzenie się fazy gama (Cu,Ni)3Sn oraz opóźnia zarodkowanie i wzrost wydzieleń komórkowych gama na granicach ziarn. Takie działanie niobu zmniejsza szybkość umacniania się stopu, lecz powoduje wzrost własności mechanicznych.

The addition of niobium to the CuNi10Sn5-alloy causes development of a fine-grained structure and secretion of the (Cu,Ni)3Nb-phase. The presence of the last, during ageing, inhibits formation of the gamma phase (Cu,Ni)3Sn and checks nucleation and growth of gamma cellular precipitates, at the grain boundaries. Such influence of niobium diminishes the speed of strengthening of the alloy, but results in growth of its mechanical properties.
