The model, which simulates heating of ingots, slabs or billets, accounting for a microstructure evolution and thermal stresses, is described. It is composed of three parts: thermal, mechanical and microstructural. The thermal part is based on the finite-element solution of diffusion equation. The microstructure evolution model uses equations describing grain growth with an influence of precipitates being accounted for. The mechanical part uses finite-element prediction of thermal stresses. All three solutions are performed simultaneously. The two remaining parts use temperatures calculated by the thermal one. In consequence, distributions of microstructural parameters and thermal stresses in the heated volume are predicted.
