For centuries it was believed, that the structures having only the utilitarian purposes belongs to the sphere of architecture but they are far from calling them the works of art. However, today it can bee seen, that this opinion has changed. The relics of medieval and modern pieces of defensive architecture are considered as the great examples of work of architecture, engineering and town planning since they fulfill most of the criterion assigned to the domain of art. The analysis of 17 and 18 century maps an plans of fortifications as well as relics of fortifications themselves deliver an excitement similar to those when in closenesses to the work of art. From the feeling of harmony and symmetry inside a fortress to the impression of expressiveness when looking at its outer shape.
