Influence of the position of a heating stripe on the natural convective heat transfer in a square cavity

This paper deals with an experimental and numerical investigation of natural convection in a two-dimensional square enclosure having a local stripe heater, positioned on the lower wall; the cavity is filled with air cooled by the side walls. The temperature distribution inside the enclosure is experimentally analyzed with the real-time and double-exposure holographic interferometry for steady-state and temporal evolution of the phenomenon. The experimental data has been compared with the results of a numerical analysis and graphs presenting the Nusselt against the Rayleigh number for various heat source position are finally presented.
