Cultures as nationality treasures, should be protected by all citizens. Damascus, the oldest inhabited capital of the world is filled with a rich atmosphere of delicacy and subtleties composed by Arabic music mixed with aroma of jasmine, delicate flowers, jetting fountains and charming lanterns-lighting up the wall of the old city. Old Damascus is filled with historical monuments from periods of Roman architecture through Byzantium, Mussulman and up to the XIXth century. Most of the monuments demand a great deal of preservation works. Funding for the preservation for these objects originate from many sources such as, the goverment, foreign and private means. The Syrian government signed several contracts for help in renovation and repairing Old Damascus monuments. Money intended for the preservation originate from various international foundations and organizations. Amongst the main contributers are the European Union, the International Bank and Japanese foundation, Jica.
