Postindustrial areas, with abandoned, devastated old factories and various industrial buildings, spread out in the center of many towns in Poland. It is grave problem: what to do with its, for architects, town planners, environmentalists and town authorities. It is the problem of difficulty of finding investors and protectors for the historic heritage of industrial architectur. It is also not easy to find investors willing to develope abandoned industrial sites of no historic value or thous where buildings have been demolished. Łódź, it is the city where the process of adaptation postindustrial buildings is very dynamic. In the past decade many old factories have changed the owners and have undergone the some transformations. Marcus Silberstein's factory was adapted for the shopping mall "Centrum Piotrkowska 250"; Kopisch's linen factory, built in 1825, was transformed for Industrial Bank; historic fire station, the part of large Scheibler's textile factory was remodeled into the office of Armada Business Park; formerly L. Goldman's and M. Natkiewicz's cotton mill was adapted for Agora Co. Ltd office, etc. The architects - authors of adaptations and the investors - new owners strived to emphasize the values of the old industrial architectur. In this process of modernization and adaptation old industrial buildings to the contemporary requirements we can observe four principal strategies.
