The paper presents an original and innovative method of building small apartment houses. The method relies on the unusual concept consisting in starting the building process from the implementation of roof structure. This new technology has been developed by Krakowski Instytut Kształtowania Środowiska (Kraków Institute of Environmental Engineering). It has been tested practically in the construction of a small housing district consisting of such buildings, and representing the pattern of high density of land development. The element to be stressed is the "modular" construction of the roof, which can be implemented in "minimum" version (with smallest surface), and later expanded, if needed by adding next segments. Thus, the internal space and inhabitation area can be increased. This imaginative and practically tested concept merits much wider application, sice it provides an interesting element contributing to the development of modern construction technologies used in building small housing units.
