The 50th Anniversary of Technical University of Cracow is induceing to reflection not only about half a centry history of our School, but also on development of site on which it was situated. Esspecoally useful for such historical-town-planning analysis appears the rich collection af archival plans of Cracow City, which are gathered as well in local archives as, or even it could besaid - first of all - in Kreigsarchiv in Vienna. A military character of archival matherials which are connected with this territory was cause of its first of all military use coming from times of Ko?ciuszko Inssurection in the end of XVIIIth centuty. This casern complex located in 1878 near by of thosedays nothern border of Cracow, named by Archduke Rudolf was the one of most modern objects for soldiers garrisoning of 2-nd half of XIXth century not only in Cracow or Galicia Land but even of all territory of Austria - Hungary Empire. It is worth to be mentioned on this place that polish architect Antoni Łukasiewicz (1836-1886) was the author of town-plan and architectural designg of this complex. Historic-compositional study of this complex which was elaborated under the scientific supervision of Professor Janusz Bogdanowski in years 1988-90 and urbanistic conception of revitvlization of territory of contemporary urban-architectural complex of Technical University of cracow, elaborated by the author of this paper deal with preser-vation of its compositional values which have now monumental scale particulary at this time when the great communication center of Cracow is in transformation just in nearest neighbourhood. The most importent seems to be to find the blance between historical essences and forms with necessity of modernization of this neuralgic part of city. This site, which was primary created by general Tadeusz Ko?ciuszko as the city fortifications should nowdays be created as the towngate which joins modern center and complex of technical high school by the name of Tadeusz To?ciuszko.
