The term "open air museum" of a general character, corresponding in meaning to the German "Frelichtmuseum" and French "musee de plein air". In Slavic countries, especially in Poland, one may also find a term "skansen" brought from Sweden, being in frequent use. International and local industrial exhibitions have played an important role the open air museum development. Among the most important we can mention the Vien exhibition of 1873, which for the first time showed how the inhabitants of different regions of Europe erected and equipped their houses. This included both copies and original buildings. The very idea of the open air museum must have been born somewhere at the and of 1970s, and was first brought to life by Artur Hazelius, the Swede. On October 11.1891, Hezelius new museum "Skansen" was opened for the public and in this way the new branch of museology was officially initiated. Let us omit here presentations of other people and nations to be the first. Development of skansen theory means also development of the forms of enlivening of exposition. It was Hazelius himself who saw "Skamsen" live. Scientific tasks serve well the purpose of realizing of many various social functions. But the main principle of all actions undertaken is to enable the visitor to get fully authentic and cognitive impressions. Recreational aspects should not be desregarded as well.
